A Gluttons Guide to Eating Gluten Free in Bedford, Bedfordshire

Contrary to opinion, not every Kiwi that moves to England ends up in London, case in point myself that has landed in Bedfordshire.  Even though I do venture down to London most weekends, I thought it was high time to share my tips on where to eat gluten free in Bedford as sharing is caring.

Rice Thai Restaurant (41 Saint Cuthbert’s Street, Bedford MK40 3JG)

This is now definitely my favourite Bedford restaurant for two reasons – the gluten free menu which is more than one page and secondly the food is super tasty.  Let me sum it up for you – I ate here twice in one week as it was that good.  Reservations are required and well in advance (like weeks) if you want a Thursday – Saturday night booking but the wait is definitely worth it.  My favourite dish is the Ginger Chicken with coconut rice (make sure you order the coconut rice, it will blow your socks off!); you can check out the full menu here.

The cutest little tea rooms that has a blooming awesome gluten free menu complete with sandwiches, scones and cakes – it’s a little slice of gluten free heaven in Bedfordshire and you definitely should check it out especially if you love mismatched china.  They can whip up a gluten free afternoon tea if booked in advance.  You can find more about the Tea Rooms here.

Fancy Cafe (35 Roff Ave, Bedford MK41 7TH)

Located in Bedford (park in the Robinson Pools car park and walk), Fancy Cafe offers cakes and more cakes; they will normally have at least one gluten free option available.  Fancy is definitely becoming a popular hang out for the cool kids that love cake so pick your times right so that you can get a table to sit down and have a yarn.

Sizzling Wok (3A The Broadway, Bedford MK40 2TJ)

This is a little gem that got recommended to my by a guy at work and for £9.95pp it’s a great place to head if you’re darn hungry for all you can eat.  It’s basically a Mongolian BBQ where you can choose your meats, vegetables and spices and they cook the food in front of you while you wait.  There is no gluten used at all however the owner said they are more than happy to cook a meal in tin foil if requested (perfect for people with peanut allergies!)

Coffee with Art (82 High Street, Bedford MK40 1NN)

The little independent coffee shop on the high street offers a millionaires slice which makes it an easy place to pick up a hot drink and something to eat when in a hurry.

The Puddin Club (120a Castle Road, Bedford MK40 3RG)

Located down Castle Road in Bedford, The Puddin Club is trying to entice us out of our houses after dinner by taking a walk to the shop to pick up dessert – calorie free dessert basically!  There are a couple of gluten free options but they are normally slices not exactly puddings unfortunately.

VesuviO Restaurant at the Sharnbrook Hotel (Park Lane, Sharnbrook, Bedford MK44 1LX)

Located on the outskirts of Bedford is this amazing Italian restaurant; now Bedford has a huge selection of Italian Restarants (due to Bedford having the biggest Italian population in the UK) so if you’re craving pizza with dough balls then this is gluten free heaven and the gluten free dessert menu will get you smiling (no chocolate brownie thank goodness!). You can check out the gluten free menu here.

Flitwick Manor

Bedfordshire is where afternoon tea started so it seems only right that I add Flitwick Manor to this listing – you can read my full review right here, go on you know you want too!
