Kelly Michelle's Diary Week 42, 2016

My Life Goal, ze Weight

Back down again…I’m craving water and ice again which to be honest, I shouldn’t complain about…it’s calorie free compared to bloody chocolate!  We will see where this goes…but am guessing it’s back to the doctors…craving ice is a sign that my iron deficiency is most likely getting worse than better.

Shake Your Booty

I haven’t done much exercise by the light exercises that my osteopath has given me…we are trying to get my knees to stop clicking thanks to doing high intensity work outs in the past year or so which has basically screwed up my knees!!  High Intensity Training is crap…don’t do it especially if you want to keep the knees that god gave you!

What I’m Up Too…

So if you follow me on instagram then you know that we made it to Rome for the weekend and came back on Tuesday…it was a lovely break away and it reminded me that Rome is one of those cities that I am happy to return too more than once…this was my third visit and am wanting to plan another visit.

Kelly Michelle's Diary Week 42, 2016

Now I’m having to organise all our visas for our next trip…slightly time pressured but nothing new there for G and I!  Have booked all our hotels and am looking to having another week off just to relax.

I have a destination in mind for our birthday weekend so I made G watch a travel show yesterday about the city….I used my manipulation skills that my mama gave me to put the destination in his mind…he seemed keen…so fingers crossed!  We would use one of our British Airways companion vouchers to fly there first class and then use our hotel points…hello free birthday weekend!

I’m a big fan of Milla’s blog and her latest post on the Taj Mahal in India is why I’m an avid reader of her blog…it’s honest, thought provoking and gives you a true insight into the destination which is often missed by other bloggers.  Like Milla, I am often appalled by the double standards I see while travelling and don’t get me started on how tourists dress when travelling…it’s called respect!

I will share this story as I really don’t understand what women are thinking these days….back in 2010, G and I travelled from Tunis to Cairo on an overland tour camping (mainly rough camping at that!); obviously on this trip we spent a lot of time in Libya and I loved it!  We had a number of young girls in their 20’s on the trip and they kept getting harassed by the locals (the men kept taking their photos and the local women would hiss at them)…not once did they think that wearing footless tights under very short denim shorts maybe was the issue…or that wearing a singlet (vest) with their boobies very much on display was the problem.  They couldn’t understand why I didn’t have the same issue…hmm let me see now…I was completely covered up at all times wearing clothes there weren’t slutty in a muslim country.  Know the country you are visiting, respect their culture and take clothes that won’t draw attention!  I really could have slapped these young girls and G as a retired overland driver just couldn’t believe how thick they were.

Anyway that’s me…so what’s all the gossip?

xx

Your trip to Rome sounds lovely! I am still yet to visit, but if it’s as lovely as the rest of Italy, I’m sure I’d love it!

I hate going somewhere and there are others that don’t respect the culture, why do they even bother leaving the hotel if they can’t just understand the basics!

I know Anna! They leave the hotel to get the photo they want to upload onto Facebook and instagram…the world has gone crazy thanks to social media xx

Arrrggghh people not respecting local cultures really gets my goat. I’ve seen a lot of it and I do end up wanting to slap people. Sadly it does seem to be young white girls who have been on social media too much – or is it just that they’re the most noticeable ones? Am I young white girl prejudiced? I don’t know. What I do know is that it’s not hard, and who wants to get hissed and leered at anyway??

Ditto! The social media thing is driving this behaviour now…everyone is trying to outdo each other. I once read a travel blogger post where she jumped the rope in Greece to get a photo on a temple…how inappropriate is that?!? You have more fun when you’re covered up as the ladies want to talk to you and you can really immerse yourself in a different culture xx
