I love a good shoefie…they’re fun and they make you actually see a destination in a different way by looking down…beauty is all around you and it doesn’t matter how you capture that beauty…with your tootsies showing or not…and you don’t need flash expensive shoes…my birkies seem to appear in way too many of my photos!  These are my Seville Shoefie Moments!

Note to Self: Wearing summer sandals in February in the Northern Hemisphere isn’t the best shoe choice…cold feet!

I’d forgotten how much fun it is taking shoefies on holiday…my last shoefie post was from Marrakech which seems like donkies ago.

So spill…which destination has the best shoefie opportunties?

I love Instagram and after spending way too much scrolling through the app (and giving myself RSI) I’ve realised there are so many Instagram Cliches that make me giggle.  I’m guilty of a few of these cliches…there is only 9 as it’s Christmas and I would be rather scoffing ten gluten free mince tarts than thinking of another instagram cliche to make it to ten.

The Shoefie

You know the instagram accounts that post shoefies…if you follow me then you’ve probably seen many pics of my pixie toes.

The I Look Amazing Photo

Yes you know what I’m talking about…I’ve walked to the top of a mountain and look and feel amazing…and I just need to post an incredible photo of myself with an inspirational quote to inspire others…hopefully one about reaching for the stars or climbing a mountain…

…but in reality, you’ve walked for three hours (should have taken two hours but your sister is instagramming the shit out of the hike and scaring off all the Kingfishers) and you’re really a hot and sweaty mess and wondering why you don’t look like one of the sanitary pad girls from the telly!

The Y Traveller

You know what I’m talking about, the travelling folks that do the whole Y pose (just search the #travel hashtag, they’re everywhere!)…just in case you were wondering what this pose looks like here is one I prepared earlier, my arms are a little too wide (I need to practice this pose more and probably should drop the handbag)

…I’m still waiting for the Y folks to add M, C and A to their Instagram feed….I can’t bloody wait…and if they could dress like the Village People then I will follow and like your photos forever!

^^That’s my bottom

The Back Photo

Because there is nothing sexier than seeing your back…we totally don’t want to see your face…your back totally tells the story…the #dametraveler hashtag will give you plenty of back photos!

The Follow Me Traveller

Seriously @muradosmann is the best account there when it comes to the “Follow Me Traveller” photos and they have 3.7 million followers to prove it plus they were the originals…

The Hat Traveller

You know what I’m talking about…the hat pose…

…and then there is the hat pose while holding the hat to your head…it was a rather windy day when we did this walk to be fair…I wasn’t trying to be instagram trendy (and my back is to the camera as I wasn’t looking hot like a Sanitary Pad girl and I was worried there might be a camel toe incident with my yoga pants…it was much safer for my back to be facing the camera)

The Coloured Wall Poser

Oh look, I found a great coloured wall to pose against (the leg against the wall is optional) and I’m going to instagram the shit out of it now…

…take a photo of me please and I will pretend that I’m leaning back against the wall with my face to the side looking into the distance thinking about world peace (but in reality my instagram brain is trying to calculate how many likes I’m going to get and if anyone else has spotted this wall before me)…I’ve failed in this photo by grimacing and looking at the camera…#instagramfail!  I wear a hat as I had skin cancer removed my scalp…the joys of growing up in New Zealand ah.

This pic may be better…I’m probably thinking of what I’m going to eat next rather than world peace!

^^^I need practice…I’ve dribbled my ice cream all over my hand…and yes I then licked my hand…the feijoa ice cream was amazing…I’ve got no shame…I’m Miss Piggy and I forgot to paint my nails…another #instagramfail.

^^The gorgeous hand model is Kat and I’m the unpolished bird

The White Out Photo

You know the ones…the totally amazing photos of Paris however they filter the shit out of it to make it all look hazy white and you really can’t see anything…here is one that I prepared earlier…enjoy the view of Paris!

And please don’t get me started on the tit and arse instagram photos…seriously don’t make me get into a bikini to do an instagram tit and arse post because I will and it won’t be pretty.  And let’s not forget about the strategically placed sunglasses photos, the yoga pose at sunrise / sunset photos, the luggage flat lays and the bloody coffee photos (I suffer from an instagram caffeine addiction on the weekend thanks to the number of kiwi brunchers I follow and I don’t even like coffee)

A big thank you to Kat and Lisa for partaking in my craziness…I love you ladies!  And a big thank you for everyone that follows me on instagram…I’m guilty as charged for a lot of these Instagram Cliches and I love them…long may they continue.

What’s your favourite Instagram cliche or which one drives you crazy…spill your guts below!?

I have a grand love affair with North Africa and the Middle East so I know how important it is to dress appropriately i.e. keep the boobies and bottom covered and your likely hood of getting hassled will be halved!  So here is my little guide on what to wear in Marrakech, in fact during your whole holiday in Morocco; I hope it helps one or two ladies out!

Morocco Travel Tips: Advice on what female travellers should wear and pack when travelling to Morocco. Dressing respectfully means less hassle so you will enjoy your vacation more!

I didn’t have a chance to photograph every outfit; that would just be too hard work and I prefer to eat rather than trying to pose badly (I could never ever be a fashion blogger!).

What to Wear in Marrakech – the Capsule Wardrobe

Morocco Travel Tips: Advice on what female travellers should wear and pack when travelling to Morocco. Dressing respectfully means less hassle so you will enjoy your vacation more!

Where to find items as above: Boden for good quality cotton tops and cardigans; Monsoon for Maxi Dresses, ASOS for cheap as chip jeans or GAP for basic t-shirts (I prefer the long sleeve t-shirts so I am fully covered…stops the constant looks and also I am protected from the sun)!

Remember that cotton and linen are your friends when it’s all hot and steamy especially during the summer months in Marrakech!  A long sleeve cardigan or scarf will cover up your arms when required.

Shopping in the Souq

Cover yourself up and you won’t have any issues; yes every shop owner will beckon you in to buy a million and one scarves but this is totally normal.  Long trousers, jeans or maxi skirts work a treat and if you don’t want dirty feet then stick to closed in shoes as it can get pretty dusty shopping in the souq.

Afternoon Tea at La Mamounia

As we were staying at the hotel I went more casual and went for a maxi dress, cardie and flats option; maxi dresses cover up a multitude of sins (when you hit your 30s you realise you learn to hide rather than paying a crap load of money on fancy creams like you did in your 20s as it’s all down to genetics anyway…but I digress).

What to Wear in Marrakech when it comes to Shoes

I have a simple rule; three pairs packed in your luggage plus a fourth pair on your tootsies and Marrakech was no different.  If you plan to take a few Moroccan shoefies on holiday then I suggest you wear prettier shoes than I did.  My shoes choices for Marrakech were a pair of Converse (worn numerous times in the souq), Birkenstock Sandals C/o Intercontinental Berlin that are actually quite comfy if you get puffy feet when it’s hot; Havaianas for the spa and a pair of Greek Sandals (similar style here).

Swimwear for the Pool

Obviously anything goes especially if you are at a huge tourist hotel with foreigners but getting slightly prudiest in my old age (and trying to hide a few scone rolls that I’ve collected due to writing those pesky Gluttons Guides to Eating Gluten Free Afternoon Tea posts) I opt for a one piece.  I won’t frightened you all with a pic in my togs…but you can check out my Swimwear Pinterest Board if you fancy!

Sunglasses

Take a pair with you that will offer UV protection as you will need them to protect your eyes from the sun and dust.  Check out the Sunglass Hut for options!

Scarves

If you plan to visit a Mosque while in Marrakech then a scarve comes in rather handy and you can pick them up in the souq for around a £1 (depending on how good you are at haggling).

Guilty as charged, I’m doing a whole post on the Moroccan #shoefie…as they say when in Rome or in this case Marrakech!  It’s Friday and we don’t need me rambling me on too much so without further ado here are some of my favourite tiles and #shoefie moments in Marrakech.

La Mamounia has some pretty colourful tiles…

Why hello June (well almost!) and welcome to our next travel link up with Emma, Rebecca and our co-host for the month Jaime from Angloyankophile.  This month it’s all about souvenirs so I thought it would be fun to share my tales from souvenir shopping in Marrakech.  Welcome to Aladdin’s Cave!

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

While I like a good shopping mall, I literally have kittens when I get into a souq and I just want to buy everything!  See, kittens….

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

G on the other hand hates shopping so after shopping together and only purchasing water and a couple of little pairs of babouches for Hunter and Gemma in New Zealand, I dropped G off at the spa.

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

So losing the male handbrake…I went on a little shopping adventure by myself.  Excited much…..and I had all the money…….

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

I had fallen in love with the lanterns at La Mamounia and I found the workshop that made them for the hotel.  Then I had shopping guilt as I remembered that we’re going to Hong Kong in July so left without buying anything….only to tell G later who said for goodness sake just by the lanterns!  I didn’t as we’re going to Hong Kong but I will be back to buy them!

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

I entered the souq and got myself into a tizz over these teapots…I wanted them all…but just couldn’t make up my mind!  Maybe I should have just bought them all…a tea pot for each day of the month seems perfectly reasonable.

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

And then the mirrors which I’ve never being fussed with in my life before…I suddenly felt the need to buy 20 of them…I was the nutter in the souq talking to myself…do you really need that mirror…of course I do…but where would I put it…we can extend the house….

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

The following day I entered the souq with a guide as I wanted to photograph doors…we entered an antique store where the owner wanted me to buy all the doors…which in fairness if we extended the house again so I could buy the 20 mirrors I wanted then I would need doors.

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

My guide was like my dad…I actually called him my Moroccan daddy…that sounds dodgy now that I write it…but he had my back when I was haggling (that sounds even dodgier…)

After a chat about Marrakech losing it’s authenticity and becoming a tourist trap I wanted to see if there were any traditional items that are still available in the souq now and here they are…I actually thought these were cute!  Many of the shop owners have changed their stock to include lanterns, scarves and whatever else tourists are wanting to buy…sad times really!

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

I was tempted to buy my daddy an antique camel saddle for his christmas present…he can be so difficult to buy for at christmas time…and the perfect gift for that person that has everything.  The camel would obviously be his birthday present!

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

After buying really nothing all weekend, my guide took me into the most beautiful lamp shop in Marrakech…huge buyers regret for not buying these beauties but right here folks is the reason why I will be returning to Marrakech!

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

There was one item that I really wanted to pick up while shopping in Marrakech and that was a beautiful silver necklace…I really like silver…I’m a cheap date at times regardless of what G tells everyone.

Travel-Link-Up-Souvenir-Shopping-in-Marrakech-Morocco

I really wanted this necklace however the shop owner wasn’t going to come down much from his silly starting price of US$900 and my Moroccan daddy for the day gave me a little talking too…basically it went like this…

But of course the Moroccan version…and yes he was dreaming.

Leaving Morocco with only the bag felt slightly wrong but alas…next time!
